As a supporter of Detroit, you are an important and essential part of my campaign.  I value your thoughts, questions, suggestions, and even criticisms as we work to move our city forward.  I encourage you to use this blog to express your views and to share your ideas on improving Detroit.  Together, we will change the conversation about Detroit.

Thank you for your participation.  I invite you to visit the Stand Up With Bing section of this website to learn how you can become more involved with the campaign effort.

Questions and Answers to Blogs

CAB96 United States |  writes:

Mr. Bing what do you think your first step of changing Detroit will be as Mayor? What kind of things do you plan on bringing to Detroit to help improve its approval ratings and its overall appearance?

Answer: I will concentrate on crime, jobs, and restoring integrity to city government.  The first priority will be getting a handle of the city’s budget situation which is out of control. No one can give me a straight answer on how big the deficit is as we stand today.  I realize that in order for us to attract and keep residents, business, and new developments the city has to be safe.  I will prioritize getting more officers on the streets to improve dismal response times for officers in the city. No other candidate can say they have created thousands of jobs for Detroiters over two decades. Additionally, I will utilize that job creating and sustaining experience to grow the city’s job base, particularly in under staffed positions in the health care industry and burgeoning high tech, bio-tech, and green technologies jobs.  Finally, I will restore confidence in city government and elected officials.  I will seek amendments to the city’s Ethic Ordinance to give it some real teeth.  I will have a zero tolerance for anyone who is ethically challenged as part of my administration.  I and my appointees will sign a pledge not to violate the ethics policy before they start serving our city.  I am challenging city council members, the city clerk, and their appointees to do the same.

If we impact crime, jobs, and restoring integrity to our city, we will begin to first view ourselves in a more positive light, and only then will our image improve.  Detroit is a great city and its residents are proud and resilient, we will remind the World of our greatness in a Bing Administration.

Mr. Bing, after you have been elected mayor, how long do you think it will take before Detroiters discern the change in their community?

Answer: I won’t promise that change will come overnight.  Detroiters will first see immediate change in how City government is operated; we will improve the way City services are delivered.  Also, my first priority will be to expand the amount of officers available to service the neighborhoods and you will see and feel this soon after I take Office.  Also, you won’t have to be ashamed of where you live because of who leads it.  I will have a zero tolerance stance on any and all ethical violations.  I will work with the Council to amend the current Ethics Ordinance, giving it teeth.  I am all of my appointees will be required to sign a pledge to abide and uphold the highest ethical standards…Detroit deserves to be proud again.

DB,
Great job on Mildred Gaddis show this morning. You may want to prepare yourself for follow-up questions at debate regarding Ms. Ware and Mr. Beckham. Concise answers for your voting record and residency probably need to be ready. I will be by your side each step of the way. A beginning police officer makes about $34,000. Your not taking a salary has created about 5 new officers to help keep Detroit safer. Thanks for your past history and Godspeed in your present and future endeavors.
Dave

Answer: Thank you Dave Williams, I agree, my calculation included any fringe benefits associated with the position.  My belief is that every additional cop counts.  We will work to get them in groups to be sure, but I’ll take them one at a time, also.

Hi Dave,

my name is gloria hunter from brooklyn, ny. Your cousin Eula Bing is a very dear friend of minds. I am confident that you will make a great statesman, if you have the same type of integrity as your cousin. I wish you all the luck in your campaign.
